Camphill Farm Outreach Program
In its recent strategic review Campill Farm decided to be more responsive to the pressing needs of the wider community in addition to the existing services offered. Camphill is actively involved in the following projects in the wider Hermanus community.
Community Enterprises for the disabled
There are many hundreds of disabled people in the surrounding district who are not being catered for at present by any of the existing services. Many of these disabled people live in the impoverished black and coloured areas. The aim is to establish small community enterprises that can provide training and employment opportunities to the physically and/or intellectually disabled. The organisation is in its forming stage and it is expected that the first workshops will start in the second half of 2007. The project is a joint venture with other not-for-profit organisations in the district and Cope Ltd, Scotland. Cope Ltd has developed a very successful model for establishing and managing community enterprises for the disabled. Later in 2007 experienced trades and business people are needed which can set up and manage these workshops.
Home based hospice care
There is an urgent need for caring for the dying people and their families in the surrounding district. Camphill has joined forces with the newly established Overstrand Hospice which will commence patient care in early 2007. The service will be home based palliative care for all community groups in the district.
