The Farm
Our 25ha dairy farm is managed holistically where social, environmental and financial factors are taken into account. Biodynamic farming principles are used in this process. We have dairy cows, pigs and chickens. Pigs are primarily used to facilitate the reduction of food waste and to improve the quality of the soil. These pigs, called 'Sandveld Red Pigs'. are rather special in that they have been bred to be both economical and have the ability to withstand our harsh outdoor climate. Our free range chickens provide eggs to our community. The cows, a mixture of Brown Swiss and Jersey, provide milk to our dairy and help with soil improvement. |
 |
The Dairy
Our dairy receives all the milk from the farm, approx. 60.000 liters annually. Of this about 14.000 liters is distributed to the farm community and school. The rest is processed into yoghurt, cream cheese, Feta, Brie and farmhouse cheese. These products are sold within the farm and school communities as well as to local customers in Hermanus and further afield. |
 |
The vegetable garden
The biodynamic vegetable garden provides seasonal vegetables, indigenous trees and shrubs for the community. Four plastic tunnels are in use for winter vegetable production as well as to propagate seedlings and local flora. There is a food processing kitchen situated in the garden. |
