Admission Camphill Farm

The minimum age for entry into Farm Community is 21, although under some circumstances this rule is relaxed. As the demand for placement exceeds the availability of accommodation there is a waiting list. Applicants are therefore advised to apply timeously. Applicants of 18 years and older are welcome to arrange for an interview , which is the first step in the admittance process.

There are three main criteria for entry: The applicant must

  • be motivated to join our community voluntarily
  • be a potentially positive member of the social community, as he/she will share community life with other similarly vulnerable people.
  • be mobile and able to make at least a humble contribution towards our work life.

These criteria would seem to restrict candidates for our village life. In actual fact, they allow a surprising range of ability and disability.

The admittance procedure consists of various steps during which the applicant can experience if village life complies with his/her needs and expectations and the community can take stock of what it has to offer the applicant.

Our community has not always been successful for people with psychiatric disorders, nor are we suitable for people who are morally handicapped, in the sense of delinquency. As these people have different needs, accommodating them with those who have mental handicaps tends to be mutually unproductive.
